Abstract Loss Series

The Abstract Loss Series was completed through process based art in abstract paintings and weavings, situated in pairs, focusing on the idea of loss. I was curious to see how my process was going to flow creating the pairs and the conversations that happened between the two. The Series invites viewers into a complex interplay between emotion and form. This compelling collection is comprised of six distinct pieces, seamlessly blending the mediums of painting and textile to evoke a narrative of subtle yet profound loss. Inspired by the concept of loss, each piece is a testament to the power of process-based art, where the creative journey itself shapes the final narrative. This series stands as a poignant exploration of absence and presence, emotion and abstraction, offering a reflective space for viewers to engage with the universal theme of loss in a uniquely expressive manner. In compositions of layered abstract forms, the vibrant chaos of the paintings emanates a sense of movement and fluidity, inviting contemplation on the transient nature of moments. They capture a sense of instability intertwined with hints of resurgence, embodying a visual conversation between layers of emotion and experience.

There’s meditation in the repetitiveness that is quite grounding in weaving. It forces me to slow down and become aware of the process, the moments in front of me, and connect the sensory experience of using texture and materiality to create tactile surfaces. I worked with a variety of fibers to mimic a natural theme in color and materiality in non-representational ways. Color exploration conveyed meaning and impact. Challenging myself by working with new processes and materials in weaving was a good exercise in abstracting and process based art - this form doesn’t necessarily lend itself to realism representation.
